Man United set to release three academy players

Manchester United are set to make big changes to their squad this summer.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray and James Nolan are set to leave United as they are out of contract at the end of the season.

Their futures have already been decided, and the club will not offer them a new deal.

Sam Murray has been a consistent presence in the academy and recently scored in the U21s’ win over West Ham United.

He was named in the starting XI for the first pre-season friendly of last summer against Rosenborg.

18-year-old Diego Leon will join United from Paraguay this summer.

The full-back will likely be heavily involved with the academy as he looks to break into the senior set-up.

Kingdon joined National League club Rochdale on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season in January.

He and Nolan were instrumental in United U18s’ historic treble-winning campaign last season.

Nolan is currently on loan with Scottish club Inverness Caledonian Thistle and has made 33 appearances for his side.

All three defenders find themselves at a crucial career juncture.

They need consistent senior football to make the leap from promising prospects to professionals.

United signed Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu in January.

Looking ahead, Harry Amass is tipped to become a first-team regular next season and is expected to compete with Dorgu for the starting left wing-back role.

Hopefully, Murray, Nolan and Kingdon can find a fresh start elsewhere and reignite their careers.

United have to make major decisions after a horrible 2024-25 season.

These shake-ups should not only be in first team but also at the academy level.
