Manchester United have made a significant decision regarding Marcus Rashford as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.
According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Man United handed Rashford a new squad number to Rashford as a message to trust and include him in the first-team.
The 28-year-old will wear the number 14 shirt and could remain at Old Trafford unless a suitable offer arrives for his services.
The Englishman was given the prestigious number 10 jersey after club legend Wayne Rooney left the club.
It was a huge vote of confidence from United, but Rashford ultimately struggled to live up to the enormous expectations attached to the iconic number.
He was frozen from the first-team by former head coach Ruben Amorim and was sent on a season-long loan to Barcelona last summer.
At the time, both Rashford and United appeared to believe their relationship had reached its conclusion, with the club giving the number 10 jersey to Matheus Cunha.
The Brazilian then enjoyed an impressive campaign at Old Trafford, making it difficult for United to justify taking the coveted number away from him.
Rashford will instead inherit the number 14 shirt, a number previously worn by United names such as Christian Eriksen, Jesse Lingard and Javier Hernandez.
The door is still open for him to leave if a sufficiently attractive offer arrives.
However, a permanent exit could prove difficult to engineer, with only a handful of European clubs seemingly capable of matching his enormous wages.
Rashford could make his return for Man United against AC Milan on August 15.
