Manchester United have already announced that Casemiro will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old has been at Old Trafford since making a big-money move from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 and has been a key acquisition for the Red Devils.
Casemiro has had a topsy-turvy career at the Theatre of Dreams, but is undoubtedly leaving the club as a fan favourite and a cult hero.
The Brazil international has played a key role in helping United win the FA Cup and EFL Cup, making over 150 appearances for the Red Devils.
He has also bagged 24 goals and 14 assists for United, including netting in the 2-0 win against Newcastle United in the 2022/23 EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
With Casemiro already one foot out the door, United have entered the market for potential replacements. But his exit has also raised questions about which players could follow him out the door.
Harry Maguire’s contract also runs out at the end of the season, but reports claim United are considering tabling a new deal for the England international.
Even with those two players sorted, United still have at least five first-team players who have now entered the final 18 months of their contracts.
That means they have some serious decisions to make this summer.
Without further ado, let’s examine which players are out of contract in 2027 and which ones the club may decide to keep beyond next summer.
Bruno Fernandes
The biggest question hanging over United this summer is the future of their captain, Bruno Fernandes.
The Portuguese international will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season, meaning this summer may be United’s final chance to cash in if need be.
Fernandes has already generated interest from the Saudi Pro League (SPL), who are ready to break the bank to lure the midfield maestro across the desert.
United will struggle to compete with the financial power of the free-spending SPL clubs. But on the plus side, Fernandes has already turned down a move to the SPL once.
The 31-year-old has been performing at the highest level this season, and United would be silly not to tie him down to a new long-term contract.
Lisandro Martinez
Lisandro Martínez has struggled with recurring injury problems throughout his United career, but he’s still one of the club’s most reliable defenders.
Since joining from Ajax in 2022 alongside Erik ten Hag, the World Cup winner has made over a century of appearances for the Red Devils.
After recovering from a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Martinez had to wait until late November to make his first appearance of the season.
However, he made an immediate impact once he returned and even wore the captain’s armband over the busy festive period.
So far, Martinez has played every minute of United’s Premier League games since the start of 2026 and that consistency could ultimately win him a new contract.
Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw has come a long way since joining United from Southampton as a teenager in 2014. Over a decade down the line, the 30-year-old defender has become United’s longest-serving player.
He signed his current deal in April 2023 after turning his injury woes around and spending the majority of the campaign on the pitch.
However, he returned to the status quo in the subsequent two seasons, spending a significant chunk of both campaigns confined to the infirmary.
Shaw was limited to just 19 Premier League games during that period . But he seems to have put his injury woes behind him this term.
The Englishman has played in every Premier League game this season and has also adapted to different roles. It remains to be seen if that’ll be enough for United to renew his contract.
Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo’s long-term future at United was a massive talking point during the January transfer window after falling out of favour under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim didn’t trust Mainoo enough to give him regular first-team minutes, sparking heated debates about the future of the talented academy graduate.
That situation left the youngster frustrated and even more so when reports claimed that United were blocking a loan exit for their talented midfielder.
A change in management has turned things around for Mainoo, with Michael Carrick’s arrival as interim manager handing him a clean slate.
However, Mainoo’s future is back on the table, with the midfielder among players in the final 18 months of their United contract.
Reluctant to lose one of the brightest talents to come through their academy in recent years, United will likely tie Mainoo to a new deal once their top-four pursuit is finalised.
Mainoo has previously been linked with a move away from United and will likely demand regular first-team minutes to commit his future to the Red Devils.
Altay Bayindir
Altay Bayindir has played second fiddle since joining United from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023.
However, he was forced to step in as United’s first-choice shot-stopper at the start of the season while the club sorted out their goalkeeping situation.
He subsequently returned to the bench when United brought in Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp last summer.
The Turkish stopper has now spent a third consecutive campaign as United’s back-up, giving United plenty to think about as his contract runs out in 2027.
At the moment, there is little pressure on his place in the squad. Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is nearing the end of his career and no longer poses strong competition.
This has made Bayindir’s role stable, but also limited in terms of playing time. Looking ahead, the situation could change.
Young goalkeeper Radek Vitek is expected to return from his loan spell at Bristol City, giving United another option between the posts. His arrival could make Bayindir’s future less certain.
Much will depend on Bayindir himself. He’ll be 28 by the summer and will likely be keen to move on in search of regular first-team minutes.
A move elsewhere could offer him the chance to become a first-choice keeper again, even if it means stepping down to a less ambitious club.
