Man United player ratings vs Nottingham Forest: Casemiro keeps silverware hopes alive for the Red Devils

Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest by 1-0 at the City Ground to advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last night.

Erik ten Hag made three changes to the side that lost to Fulham on Saturday.

Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay and Antony replaced Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo and Omari Forson.

Man United started brightly but failed to take advantage of their chances. The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock, but Andre Onana did well to keep them at bay.

Casemiro headed home in the 89th minute via a set-piece delivery from Bruno Fernandes to secure a home tie against Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

Let’s get into some player ratings.

Andre Onana – 8/10

He made a couple of crucial stops right after the break to keep Man United in the game. Hopefully, he can produce a similar performance against Manchester City on Sunday.

Diogo Dalot – 7/10

Dalot delivered two fine crosses from the right flank to McTominay that should have found their way past the goalkeeper.

Victor Lindelof – 7/10

The Sweden international showed that he is dependable when playing as a centre-back. He earned a yellow card for a tactical foul on Anthony Elanga.

Raphael Varane – 7/10

There were doubts over the fitness of the Frenchman, but his presence was key to maintaining a clean sheet.

Sofyan Amrabat – 6/10

The midfielder looked out of his depth in defence, but his influence grew in the second half.

Casemiro – 7/10

The Brazilian produced a fine display with five tackles and 85% passing accuracy.

His last-gasp match-winner keeps Man United’s hopes of winning silverware alive.

Scott McTominay – 7/10

The Scotland international should have scored in the first few minutes of the game but directed his header straight at the goalkeeper.

Bruno Fernandes – 6/10

The United skipper created an early chance for Antony. He assisted Casemiro for the match-winner but didn’t do enough with the ball before that.

Antony – 6/10

Antony was unfortunate to see his curling shot deflected off the bar. However, he offered no threat going forward and was heavily reliant on his left foot to do much of the work.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6/10

The best of front-three but with little end product.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10

Rashford failed to keep his shot down when McTominay easily found him in the box. His hold-up play was poor, showing that centre-forward is not his best position.

Substitutes

Amad Diallo – 5/10

A below-par sub-performance where he mishit his shot and gave the ball away in United’s half.

Jonny Evans – N/A

Too late to rate.

Kobbie Mainoo – N/A

Too late to rate.
