Manchester United have reportedly made a major decision regarding the future of captain Bruno Fernandes.
According to The Mirror, Man United have paused their conversations with Fernandes over a new contract.
This decision comes after the 31-year-old assured senior figures at the club before leaving for the World Cup that he has no intention of leaving United.
The club also assured Fernandes that they would work towards significantly strengthening the squad over the summer.
United are now expected to open negotiations with the Portuguese midfielder over a new deal before the end of 2026.
Fernandes scripted history last season by breaking the all-time record for the most assists in a single league campaign.
The United captain registered a stunning 21 assists alongside nine league goals as he inspired the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League table.
He won the Players’ Player of the Year award and also became the first player in United’s history to win the prestigious Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a record fifth time.
The creative machine was also named the best player by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) after a stellar season.
The midfielder could easily have used his historic season as leverage to secure an enormous new contract immediately.
Instead, Fernandes reportedly encouraged INEOS to prioritise rebuilding and strengthening the squad before discussing his own long-term future.
This gesture clearly shows that Fernandes is desperate and fully dedicated to win major trophies with Man United.
