Man United open ‘formal talks’ with Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United are now zeroing in on a new striker as the final piece in their attacking puzzle this summer.

According to the reliable journalist Ben Jacobs, Man United have opened formal talks for Benjamin Sesko after sending a secret delegation to Germany.

RB Leipzig are expected to demand at least £69.6 million for their prized forward, but United are hoping to strike a deal closer to £60.5m (€70m).

Having already splashed around £130m on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United are walking a financial tightrope as they plan their next move.

Aston Villa marksman Ollie Watkins is another name on United’s shortlist but they are “prioritising” a move for Sesko.

The Villans value Watkins highly and do not want to sell him.

Standing at 6ft 5in, Sesko would bring a commanding physical presence to a United frontline that struggled for goals last season.

His arrival could pave the way for either Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee to leave.

Arsenal appeared best-placed to sign the 22-year-old but they turned their attention to land Viktor Gyokeres instead.

Newcastle United are also circling, but Sesko is believed to prefer a move to Old Trafford, even without the lure of European football next season.

The Slovenian is known for his powerful shots and high work-rate.

While Watkins represents a safer and proven Premier League option, INEOS appear ready to gamble on Sesko’s sky-high potential.

Sesko is still very young and may need time to adjust to the intense demands of English football.

His tally of 13 goals and five assists in 33 Bundesliga games last season proves that he has immense potential.

Leipzig are tough negotiators, and it will be interesting to see if United will be able to get their desired number nine at a discount.

The Red Devils will likely need to raise funds from the sales of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia before placing a formal bid.
