Manchester United’s ember to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich has rekindled after the Austrian international has reportedly failed to agree on a contract renewal with the German club, according to a well-known journalist in Christian Falk.
Manchester United were in the hunt for a left-footed center-back in the summer transfer window.
There were reports suggesting United’s interest in the 2019-20 Champions League-winning defender, David Alaba.
However, the closure of the summer transfer window witnessed the 28-year-old knotting his ties at the Bundesliga side.
Alaba’s contract at his current club is set to expire in June 2021, with a host of European heavyweights currently tracking down the situation between Bayern Munich and the left-footed prodigy.
Although Alaba is known for his traits at the left-back position, a new role at the heart of the defence saw the veteran proving his abilities as a centre-back.
Having played as a centre-back, he went on to complete a quintuple with the Bavarians. And now, he is asking the right price for the versatility he has shown from the German club.
According to the story revealed by SportBild’s Christian Falk, Bayern have failed in their third attempt to tie Alaba down with a long-term extension.
It has been reported that Bayern are not ready to pay Alaba’s demands. And hence, there is a diversity in the overall occurrence.
Alongside Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, and several other clubs are expected to be in the race for the signature of the left-back-cum-centre-back.
As things stand now, Bayern could be looking to sell Alaba in the upcoming January transfer window, while a move in the next summer could see the German giants losing one of their most adored assets for free.
