Manchester United co-owners INEOS have signed several youngsters since arriving at the club.
Left wing-back Patrick Dorgu and centre-back Ayden Heaven are the latest additions, joining the club in the January transfer window.
Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon is also set to arrive in the summer. He would be United’s eighth U21 arrival under INEOS, showing their vision for the club’s future.
United look set to continue recruiting talented youngsters, as they have been linked with River Plate’s attacking midfielder Franco Mastantuono.
The Red Devils are said to be interested in Mastantuono and are following him closely, according to Sky Sports.
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the most talented players in Argentina and has established himself as a pivotal player for River Plate.
He is the club’s youngest goalscorer and is expected to play a key role in this summer’s expanded Club World Cup.
Mastantuono has also piqued the interest of Chelsea, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
The youngster has a release clause of £38 million, the highest-ever in River Plate’s history, but his contract ends in 2026.
The Argentine club may not be forced to sell their coveted star for a discount. They recorded a £46m profit in last season’s financial results.
United may miss out on Mastantuono
United are preparing for a massive summer, seeking to bolster their squad with quality signings.
However, the club need to be careful about splashing money on players to prevent infringing on the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
As such, they are unlikely to spend as much £38m on an unproven player such as Mastantuono, paving the way for other interested clubs to get his signature.
They would likely focus on key signings that can make an immediate impact for the club.
With United also looking poised to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, they may not advance their interest in Mastantuono.
