Man United interested in Alex Scott as Bournemouth contract extension looks unlikely

Manchester United have identified Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott as one of their priority transfer targets ahead of a crucial summer rebuild.

It was revealed last week that Bournemouth have already opened talks with Scott over a potential new contract extension.

According to The Athletic, it seems highly unlikely that the 22-year-old will sign a new deal with Bournemouth.

United have already made initial enquiries as they attempt to understand the full financial package required to complete a deal.

Scott could be a shrewd signing

Bolstering midfield is the clear priority for INEOS.

Casemiro will officially leave Old Trafford at the end of this month, while Manuel Ugarte could also be moved on following a frustrating two-year spell at the club.

The Red Devils ideally need three new midfielders to properly support Kobbie Mainoo during what could become a gruelling 2026-27 campaign.

Scott has been very impressive for Bournemouth and played a major role in helping the club secure UEFA Europa League qualification after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.

Although he often operates in front of the centre-backs, Scott is far from a traditional defensive midfielder.

He plays with intensity and has the ability to drive forward with the ball at his feet.

The young midfielder registered over 12 defensive contributions per 90 minutes and dominated 55.6% of his duels last season.

If Bournemouth become open to selling him this summer, United must seriously push to bring Scott to Old Trafford at the right price.
