Manchester United could sanction another exit in the upcoming few days to make space in the squad.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Greek club Panathinaikos are in ‘advanced talks’ with Man United to seal the permanent transfer of Facundo Pellistri.
The negotiations are ongoing and an exit is on the cards for Pellistri.
The Uruguay international joined United from Penarol in 2020 in a deal worth around £7 million.
He spent two separate stints on loan with Deportivo Alaves. His latest loan term was with Granada, where he netted twice in 15 La Liga appearances.
Pellistri has failed to make his mark in these temporary moves away from Old Trafford.
He is predominantly a right-winger but Erik ten Hag used him as a right-back in Community Shield loss to Manchester City.
Alejandro Garnacho has seized the right-wing spot with undeniable flair, while Amad Diallo is a formidable back-up.
Antony and Jadon Sancho also add their spark to the role, creating competition for places.
This leaves Pellistri as the fifth choice for the right flank.
Despite Antony’s underwhelming two-year stint at Old Trafford, United are prepared to give him another season to prove that their hefty investment will eventually pay off.
A loan campaign similar to Diallo’s impressive stint at Sunderland could have given Pellistri the experience and confidence he needed to make a bigger impact at United.
However, that failed to happen which could finally force the Premier League club to sell the starlet.
United have bid farewell to Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala and Alvaro Fernandez this summer.
Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial also exited as their contracts ran out, marking a significant shake-up in the squad.
