Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield further after agreeing a deal for Brazilian midfielder Ederson.
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is on their radar following his brilliant displays for the Cherries last term.
He featured in 37 Premier League games and chipped in with four goal involvements, helping Bournemouth qualify for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history.
Described as ‘magnificent‘ by journalist Daniel Storey, Scott was nominated for the league’s Young Player of the Season award alongside United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Bournemouth insist Scott is not for sale and are prepared to give him a new contract. The proposed deal could include a release clause, similar to the one included in forward Antoine Semenyo’s deal that facilitated his move to Manchester City in January.
Despite their efforts to keep the English midfielder, the Daily Mail report that Man United are ‘growing increasingly optimistic’ about signing him.
The Mancunian giants must now act swiftly to secure his services as Arsenal are also interested in the young midfielder.
Liverpool could also swoop in, having appointed Andoni Iraola as manager. Scott previously worked under the Spaniard at Bournemouth.
Bournemouth would be open to talks if they receive a bid in the region of £80 million for Scott. United, meanwhile, believe they could get a deal done for around £60m.
The Red Devils are not ready to pay exorbitant fees for their targets. They have also been reluctant to meet West Ham United’s £85m valuation for midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
United may have to be prepared to pay more for their preferred signings, given the increasingly inflated nature of the transfer market.
