Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in line to return to the squad against Liverpool for the FA Cup quarter-final this weekend.
Erik ten Hag has faced a major dilemma for the left-back spot in recent weeks.
Man United terminated Sergio Reguilon’s loan in January with the expectation that Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia would be fit.
Shaw returned from a lengthy lay-off in January but sustained a muscle injury in February. He is expected to be out until May.
Malacia has not featured all season and is not expected to play any part this term.
Wan-Bissaka last played in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Tottenham Hotspur in January. His injury left Ten Hag with just one full-back – Diogo Dalot.
Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat have filled in at left-back in recent games, but both have been disappointing.
With Wan-Bissaka back in the squad, Ten Hag can start Dalot on the left flank, with the former Crystal Palace man operating at right-back.
The Portuguese international has been in fine form for the Red Devils, and Ten Hag could have a few reservations about removing him from his preferred spot.
However, the 24-year-old is an attacking full-back, and his presence on the left could also help Marcus Rashford.
The England international needs the left-back to make overlapping runs and take away defenders.
Dalot could provide support to Rashford on the left, considering his dynamic attacking play.
It would also be a good opportunity for Wan-Bissaka. The €20 million-rated defender is set to enter into his final 12 months of the contract.
Man United triggered the one-year extension clause in his current deal in January, but are yet to offer him a new long-term contract.
