Manchester United have announced the signing of striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. He was unveiled before the kick-off of the pre-season friendly with Fiorentina at Old Trafford today.
United have now taken another step towards securing another signing.
According to Club insider SullyTalkz, United are closing in on Leeds United goalkeeper Charlie Hardy. He was excluded from Leeds’ new list of scholars, implying that an exit is imminent.
Hardy debuted for Leeds U18s in their U18 Premier League opening game against Stoke City last season but only made three other appearances.
He plays for England U16s at international level and has five caps under his belt, further establishing his credentials as one of the best teenage goalkeepers in England.
Hardy was also linked with other clubs, but Man United now look to have won the race for his signature.
In line with the Premier League Elite Player Performance Plan Rules, the Manchester outfit are expected to pay a compensation fee to Leeds for the transfer of Hardy.
Club co-owners INEOS have shown commitment towards investment in the academy, and their pursuit of the English youngster is further proof of that.
United have already signed promising striker Enzo Kana-Biyik, who is on loan at INEOS-owned Lausanne Sports, and centre-back Harley Emsden-James this summer.
Hardy is expected to join the U18s if the deal is completed. With either Will Murdock or Cameron Byrne-Hughes featuring more regularly for the Development side next season, he could get some game time with Darren Fletcher’s side.
His transfer may not be completed before United’s U18 Premier League opener against Everton next Saturday.
The England youth international will be hoping to progress through the youth ranks to become a first-team player at United.
