Bryan Mbeumo, Matthijs De Ligt and Leny Yoro have been nominated for Manchester United’s Men’s August Player of the Month.
Mbeumo has had a blistering start to life at Old Trafford after sealing a move from Brentford in July in a deal worth £71 million.
He shone on his official debut against Arsenal in United’s opening Premier League game at Old Trafford, and his corner led to United’s only goal at Fulham.
The Cameroonian opened his goalscoring account in the Carabao Cup second round exit at Grimsby Town and was also on target in the 3-2 victory over Burnley.
De Ligt has been solid in defence, playing as the central centre-back in Man United’s first three league games.
The Dutchman kept Viktor Gyokeres quiet in the game against Arsenal. He was close to opening his goalscoring account for the season at Grimsby before converting his spot-kick in the penalty shootout.
Yoro has also been impressive in defence. He appears to have finally overcome the fitness concerns that plagued him last season, starting United’s first three league games.
His timely intervention prevented Josh King from opening the scoring at Craven Cottage, and his header led to Rodrigo Muniz’s own goal. He was voted United’s man-of-the-match in the fixture.
Likewise, Hinata Miyazawa, Elisabeth Terland and Julia Zigiotti Olme have been nominated for the Women’s Player of the Month.
Miyazawa starred in the midfield in the Champions League qualification games against PSV and Hammarby, helping to control the tempo in both fixtures.
Terland scored a hat-trick against PSV, and the only goal that gave Man United the victory over Hammarby. She is seeking to win the award for the second time since joining Man United last summer.
Olme has quickly adapted to life at United, having joined from Bayern Munich this summer. The midfielder almost scored against PSV but was denied by the woodwork.
The winner in both categories will be announced later this week.
