Manchester United have upped the ante in terms of scouting across the globe and have set their sights on Djurgarden’s rising star Lucas Bergvall.
Fotbolldirekt reports that the 17-year-old Swedish prodigy has attracted attention from several other clubs including Barcelona and Inter Milan, setting the stage for a potential bidding war.
United have been scouting Bergvall since he came through the youth ranks at Brommapojkarna, and the young talent’s performances in the Swedish top flight this season have increased the club’s interest.
Having secured a move to Djurgarden in February for €900,000, Bergvall has quickly become an integral part of the team, making 26 appearances in all competitions and contributing two goals and an assist.
Bergvall possesses a certain physical prowess with an exceptional passing range to boot, averaging 88% accuracy per match, including a 71% success rate with long balls.
His vision, passing ability and nimble footwork have earned him recognition among Europe’s elite clubs, with United positioning themselves at the forefront of the pursuit.
While there is still room for development, Bergvall has established himself as a promising talent and has the potential to become a top-class midfielder.
The Swedish prodigy has previously visited United’s Carrington training complex and was described as an outstanding talent by Brommapojkarna sporting director Peter Kisfaludy.
The Red Devils will be wary of missing out on another promising talent after the likes of Jude Bellingham and Erling Braut Haaland slipped through their grasp on their way to becoming world-beaters.
Bergvall’s contract with Djurgardens runs until December 2025, so they are under no immediate pressure to sell, although they could struggle to hang on to the youngster in January.
Getting him to commit to a longer-term deal is also an option for the Swedish giants, who will be keen to milk every penny possible from his inevitable sale in the near future.
