Louis Van Gaal could give youth a chance against Crystal Palace and hand James Wilson his first start of the campaign, while dropping Robin Van Persie to the bench.
Much had been made of United’s firepower following the transfer window, but with Radamel Falcao sidelined with an injury and Van Persie struggling for form, United are yet to fully click into gear in the final third of the pitch.
Van Persie was expected to be the main beneficiary of Van Gaal’s arrival, but the Dutchman has only netted three times this season and has so far failed to discover the same form he had shown at the World Cup in Brazil.
LVG has previously warned his players that they should not consider themselves automatic starters, regardless of their reputation and Van Persie might well find himself on the bench on Saturday.
Watching young Manchester United players progress to the first team is a treat, and you can book Man Utd tickets online and get in to see United play at home or away in the league.
Wilson, who replaced the Dutchman in the final stages of Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City, is considered one of United’s most promising youngsters and scored twice on his debut last season.
“It’s an important time for me,” said Wilson. “Obviously with those two going – Chicha on loan and Danny getting a move to Arsenal – it’s given me a great opportunity. It’s going to be really important for me to get the minutes on the pitch.
“Obviously with the competition in training and even in the games as well, if I can just get a few minutes here and there, then hopefully I can get my chance further down the line.”
