LVG talks up United chances of silverware

Manchester-United-v-Cambr-008Louis Van Gaal said Manchester United were worth a bet to win the FA Cup for the 12th time after beating Cambridge 3-0 on Tuesday night and progressing to the fifth round.

Goals from Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo and James Wilson saw United through in comfortable fashion against the League Two side and United will now face another lower league outfit, Preston, in the fifth round.

With the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City already out, according to their manager, United are among the favourites to win the trophy for the first time since 2004.

“We have a real chance now. Why? We are the highest-qualified team in the FA Cup so our status is the highest club so the possibility [is there]. People are maybe betting on us. I am not allowed to. I give you a tip,” said Van Gaal.

“I am not a casino man. But of course I think the highest-qualified teams have more possibilities to win than lower-qualified teams that is why everyone is in favour of Cambridge tonight [Tuesday].

“But Arsenal is still in the Cup and also a very high competitor. Liverpool is also there and will fight [at] Bolton Wanderers tomorrow.”

United last faced Preston 43 years ago and Van Gaal was adamant that the trip to Deepdale would not be easy.

“Preston beat a great cup fighter in Sheffied United. I heard from Ryan [Giggs] they are very good cup fighters and they beat them 3-1. So Preston is not a piece of cake,” said the United manager.
