Louis Van Gaal has confirmed both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie have been axed from the list of penalty takers for the remainder of the season.
Van Persie’s miss condemned United to a 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich on Saturday, their third defeat in a row, and Van Gaal said it will now be up to someone else to step up to the spot.
“He is now at the end of the road,” Van Gaal said when asked if Van Persie would remain United’s penalty taker this season.
“It’s always like that. Wayne has missed also, so when you miss you are at the bottom again.
“Wayne has already missed – twice I believe. So we have penalties and we miss them.”
Van Persie has missed three of the seven penalties he’s taken since joining United, while Rooney has converted 16 of the 24 penalties he has taken.
