Louis Van Gaal believes Anthony Martial will not get carried away despite making an explosive start to his Manchester United career.
The Frenchman, a £36m signing from Monaco, came off the bench to score United’s third goal in their 3-0 win against Ipswich in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night, making it four goals in three appearances for his new club.
However, Van Gaal, who was criticised for spending such a huge sum on a 19-year-old, insisted he wasn’t worried the Frenchman would get caught in the hype that has surrounded him following his first three games for the club.
“That’s not difficult because he’s a player who is very modest and he knows he can score because of his fellow players,” said the United manager.
“We made it very easy for him two times because we won the game and then the gaps are existing and, with his speed and composure, he can score.
“He did it also against Liverpool and now again. We are happy but still we have to keep our feet on the ground.”
