LVG: “I bought Martial for the next United manager”

CN1JXsvWoAAZFbcLouis Van Gaal has described the fee Manchester United paid for Anthony Martial as “ridiculous”, adding the price tag was evidence of the “crazy world we are in”.

The United manager added that the French striker was signed for his long-term potential, rather than as ready-made solution, explaining he sanctioned the transfer as he believes Martial will be a powerful asset in the hands of his eventual successor in the Old Trafford dugout.

“I have not bought Martial for me, I have bought him for the next manager of Manchester United,” Van Gaal said at an event for United season ticket holders, before nodding towards Giggs and adding: “I feel I am introducing the next manager of Manchester United.”

Asked what he thought of the criticism aimed at his side’s display by Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, Van Gaal replied: “It makes me sick because they should know that it takes time.”
