Liverpool W vs Man United W: Match preview, head-to-head, team news, where to watch

Manchester United Women take on Liverpool Women at Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday afternoon, aiming to return to winning ways in the Women’s Super League.

United were held to a goalless draw by Arsenal at Leigh Sports Village last weekend, marking the first time they have dropped points this season.

As a result, they lost top spot to defending champions Chelsea, who they now trail by two points.

Liverpool’s game at Aston Villa was postponed following the death of their former manager Matt Beard.

They have yet to pick up a point this season, but they recorded their first win of the campaign in the League Cup on Wednesday, thrashing WSL 2 side Sunderland 5-0.

Match preview

United are favourites for this clash and will be determined to get a victory to avoid losing further ground on Chelsea, who they face in their next fixture.

The two sides played 2-2 in pre-season, with midfielder Ella Toone scoring on the stroke of full-time to salvage a draw for Man United.

United lost in their last two trips to Liverpool, but given their brilliant form, they have a good chance of ending their poor run against the Reds.

The clash could be tricky for Man United as Liverpool will head into the game buoyed with confidence, following their big win over Sunderland.

Head-to-head

United boast a superior head-to-head, with seven wins, four losses, and one draw in their past 12 competitive meetings.

Team news

Coach Marc Skinner confirmed that United will be without Simi Awujo, Leah Galton, and Millie Turner for the encounter.

Liverpool will miss long-term absentees Zara Shaw and Rachael Laws, while coach Gareth Taylor hopes Marie Hobinger and Leanne Kiernan are fit for the game after they missed their win over Sunderland.

Where to watch

The match will be live on Sky Sports and the WSL YouTube channel. Radio commentary will also be available in the United App.
