Liverpool could sign top Man Utd target

Manchester United are expected to have a busy summer transfer window as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to rebuild a squad to challenge for a top four finish.

The boss will have to bring in players without being able to offer Champions League football, all whilst Manchester City and Liverpool are setting transfer records, inflating the price of players.

There are numerous positions Ole will be looking to upgrade but our defence has to be one of the top priorities. Jose Mourinho failed to land a single centre-back last summer and we went on to concede more goals than we ever have this past Premier League season.

Rmours of signing Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur have died down following the North London club’s top four finish and appearance in the Champions League final. Barcelona would need to sign a replacement if they were to consider selling Samuel Umtiti.

One player who has risen to the top this season is Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt. The 19-year-old helped his side win the double in the Netherlands and reach the Champions League semi-final for the first time in more than two decades.

As a result, de Ligt has been linked to a number of Europe’s top clubs, including Manchester United.

However, the Daily Express are reporting that a move to Liverpool is more likely as they claim a shift in power. The Reds finished runners-up in the Premier League this past season and won the Champions League. They are an attractive club to play for once again under Jurgen Klopp. De Ligt to Liverpool could happen this summer.

Matthijs de Ligt moving to Anfield partner him up with international teammate Virgil van Dijk, which could instantly give Liverpool the best centre-back partnership in world football. Fellow countryman Georginio Wijnaldum is also at the club.

Barcelona have been the bookmakers’ favourites to land the teenager all year but the Express report that the Spanish La Liga side’s interest in de Ligt has cooled in recent weeks.
