Manchester United are stepping up their search for a new left-back who can challenge Luke Shaw for a starting spot next season.
Lewis Hall is their dream target but Newcastle United have no intention of selling him this summer.
Hall was reportedly keen to leave the Magpies after former manager Eddie Howe used him sparingly towards the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
The 21-year-old was also unable to make it into the England squad for the FIFA World Cup.
The Sun have now revealed that Hall still wishes to leave Newcastle despite the arrival of new manager Matthias Jaissle.
That could be a major boost for United, but convincing Newcastle to sell may require a record-breaking offer.
Newcastle have already sold Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes this summer. The departure of Howe has also caused major instability at the club.
United desperately need reinforcements at left-back, as relying on Shaw to stay fit and play regularly across four competitions would be a huge gamble.
If Shaw suffers another injury, Carrick could be forced to shift Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui to the left, leaving United without a natural option in the position.
Harry Amass offers another solution, but the 19-year-old remains too raw to handle the demands of top-level football on a regular basis.
The 19-year-old could be suited to a third-choice full-back role.
He is also expected to leave this summer with United open to selling him for around £6 million.
If Hall is genuinely determined to leave Newcastle, INEOS must make that desire impossible for the Magpies to ignore by putting a substantial offer on the table.
