‘Let’s hope he continues’, Solskjaer delighted for Manchester United star after Tranmere rout

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is delighted for defender Harry Maguire, who scored his maiden goal for the club in the 6-0 thumping of Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round. The England international has not been able to provide a goalscoring threat from set-pieces in his debut season with United but on Sunday, he came up a memorable long-range strike from outside the box to put United 1-0 ahead at Prenton Park in the 13th minute. Maguire thereafter put up a solid defensive display until he was substituted in the 63rd minute and the centre-back was rated as the best player on the field with a whoscored rating of 8.90 for the Cup tie. Speaking after the game, Solskjaer was pleased for Maguire and admitted that the club have been waiting for a long time for him to get onto the scoresheet. The Norwegian added to praise the long-range strike from the 26-year-old and he is hopeful that the defender can carry on to contribute more goals for the rest of the campaign. “We’ve been waiting for that [goal] for a long time! It’s a great way for [Harry] to open his account and let’s hope he continues,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website. United will swiftly turn their focus to the second leg of the League Cup semi-final against Manchester City on Wednesday where they need to overcome a two-goal deficit after the 3-1 loss at Old Trafford. Their prospects of reaching the League Cup final remain difficult but Solskjaer will be hoping that the players can give their best to level the aggregate score at the least and take the game to a penalty shoot-out.
