Leeds 1-1 Man United: Player ratings – Two 4/10s must do better, 8/10 for superb Zirkzee & Cunha

Manchester United and Leeds United played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw at a charged-up Elland Road on Sunday

Manager Ruben Amorim made one change to his side that had drawn 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers last week.

The opening half was cagey and scrappy, as both sides struggled to impose themselves or find any real rhythm in possession.

The contest burst into life after the break when Brenden Aaronson timed his run to perfection and fired Leeds into the lead.

That advantage proved short-lived, as Matheus Cunha responded in style to drag United level and silence the home crowd.

Despite flashes of intensity and moments of quality at both ends, neither side could find a winner.

Player Ratings

Senne Lammens – 4/10

Hesitated to come off his line and failed to make himself big, allowing Aaronson the space to slot the ball into the net.

Leny Yoro – 7/10

Yoro came closest to score for United in the first half. He needs to do so much better in wide areas but looked tidy with ball at his feet.

Ayden Heaven – 7/10

Produced a crucial tackle to deny James Justin inside the penalty area, but was later caught out and beaten for pace by Aaronson in the build-up to the opening goal.

Lisandro Martinez – 7/10

Led the side and the defence with real authority. He also looked to be progressive in possession, spraying long passes forward to help create chances.

Diogo Dalot – 5/10

Offered little threat in the final third from the wing-back role, squandering two half-chances and rarely looking capable of making a decisive impact.

Luke Shaw – 7/10

Made a crucial headed clearance at the far post, demonstrating strong defensive awareness and discipline from the left wing-back role.

Casemiro – 6/10

His passing lacked its usual sharpness, but his influence should not be underestimated.

Critics may continue to pick holes in his game, yet he remains a calming presence who consistently finds ways to deliver when it matters.

Manuel Ugarte – 7/10

A solid and energetic display from the 24-year-old. He was a driving force in midfield without the ball, pressing relentlessly and breaking up play.

Patrick Dorgu – 6/10

Picked out Dalot with a clever lofted pass to create a half-chance, while remaining defensively solid. However, he was unable to replicate the attacking spark he showed in the win over Newcastle United

Matheus Cunha – 8/10

Showed his quality with a clever flick to create a chance for Dorgu on the stroke of half-time, before dragging United back into the game moments later with a smart run beyond Sebastiaan Bornauw and a composed finish past the goalkeeper.

Benjamin Sesko – 4/10

Spurned a gilt-edged headed chance from Casemiro’s cross, even if the move was ultimately flagged offside.

He later failed to test the goalkeeper again when Zirkzee picked him out, capping a frustrating evening in front of goal.

Substitutions

Joshua Zirkzee – 8/10

A splendid cameo.

Made an instant impact by threading a perfectly weighted pass with his first touch to release Cunha. He could easily have ended the night with another assist to his name.
