‘Leave my club’, ‘not good enough’, some Man United fans slam attacker’s display vs Watford

A selection of Manchester United fans have slammed the performance of Jesse Lingard following the shock 2-0 Premier League defeat to Watford on the road.

The Red Devils had gone into the game with a six-match unbeaten run in the top-flight and they were certainly favourites to come up with the three points from Vicarage Road.

However, their performance was pretty average throughout the opening half and the only clear-cut chance fell to Jesse Lingard, who squandered a one-on-one opportunity against Ben Foster.

The England international has been going through a tough phase over the past year but he still attempted an audacious chip shot on goal which went over Foster and over the bar.

In the second half, a horrendous goalkeeping mistake from David de Gea allowed the Hornets to grab the lead in the 50st minute. Few moments later, the hosts doubled the advantage through a penalty conceded from a poor tackle from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United were not able to make a comeback despite a late flurry of chances towards the end and the result has meant that they have dropped seven points behind the top-four places heading into Christmas.

A number of players under performed during the course of the game, but a section of the United fans have questioned the selection of Lingard, who has now failed to score a Premier League goal for an entire year.

Twitter Reactions:

Manchester United are scheduled to entertain Newcastle United at home on Boxing Day. It will be interesting to see whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to stick with him in the number 10 role, where he has been ineffective in recent games against Everton and Watford.
