Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo delivered a fantastic midfield performance during the 2-1 Premier League win over Luton Town on Sunday.
The Red Devils continued their unbeaten start to the New Year with a victory over the Hatters. It was not entirely convincing, but they secured three points in the end.
Mainoo started off in the number eight position with Casemiro behind him, but he shifted into the defensive midfield position following the half-time interval.
The 18-year-old won an impressive six ground duels and completed six dribbles. He registered 35 passes (out of 40) over 90 minutes with a good accuracy of 88 per cent.
Mainoo was brilliant with his ball control in tight spaces and he looks set for a huge career ahead at United with the way he has been performing during his debut season.
In our opinion, the wonderkid has now become undroppable for manager Erik ten Hag. We believe he would start ahead of Casemiro when Mason Mount returns to the XI.
Meanwhile, it may not be long before United hand him a new long-term deal. Mainoo is currently the third-lowest earner in the first-team squad at just £10,000 per week.
He deserves at least £50,000 weekly which Alejandro Garnacho is currently on. The Argentine has clauses in his contract which could substantially increase his wages in future.
The Red Devils could reward Mainoo with a similar contract package. We won’t be surprised if United speed up the process. We could see an announcement before the season ends.
Mainoo will be eyeing his 10th straight Premier League start this weekend when Fulham will make the trip to Old Trafford. United will be aiming for a fifth consecutive league win.
