Key Manchester United star absent from travelling squad to face Arsenal : report

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was reportedly absent from the travelling squad which made the trip to London ahead of the Premier League clash against Arsenal on New Year’s Day.

The Frenchman returned from a lengthy ankle problem in the backend of December and he made a couple of second-half appearances against Watford and Newcastle United in the league.

However, he was left out of the matchday squad against Burnley to recover but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted that the 26-year-old would return for the Gunners clash at the Emirates Stadium.

According to The Manchester Evening News, it appears that Pogba may not feature against the Gunners on Wednesday, given he was not part of the 20-man squad which caught the train to London.

Pogba was absent for the 15-minute training session with the Red Devils on Monday but Solskjaer did suggest in his press conference that the midfielder could be in contention for the Gunners clash.

One can only assume that the Frenchman will join up with the squad prior to the game or else, Solskjaer may have decided to rest him, considering he may not be entirely fit after a three-month injury lay-off.

United are likely to go with Nemanja Matic and Fred in the midfield against the Gunners. Scott McTominay, who has been the club’s standout performer in the centre of the park, remains sidelined after a knee ligament damage.
