Kevin Trapp has confirmed he will remain at Eintracht Frankfurt this season despite interest from Manchester United.
The Old Trafford outfit are searching for a new goalkeeper in the final days of the transfer window and had identified Trapp as a target.
Reports earlier this week claimed the two teams were yet to agree a fee, although it was believed the German was open to the move.
Trapp has now committed his immediate future to the Bundesliga outfit, ultimately signalling the end of United’s pursuit.
He told BILD: “In the past few days, much has been reported about Manchester United’s interest. It is correct that there is a written offer.
“Manchester United is a world [class] club. I hope everyone can understand that I am dealing with such an offer and thinking about it.
“Yesterday I informed the responsible persons of both clubs that I had decided for Eintracht. I experienced sensational things here with Eintracht and we made history together. The start of the season was bumpy, but I have absolute confidence in us.”
Frankfurt were reported to have put their asking price at €25 million while the Red Devils are only willing to spend around €8m on a new goalkeeper so a middle ground was always going to be difficult to find.
United turn attention to Martin Dubravka
United have been linked to multiple goalkeepers this summer, including Yann Sommer, Diogo Costa, Odysseas Vlachodimos and Trapp.
All of these deals have been met with one technicality or another and the Old Trafford outfit have now turned their attention to Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka.
The move is expected to be a simple season-long loan with Erik ten Hag looking for immediate competition for David de Gea.
Dubravka has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle with the arrival of Nick Pope this summer and is believed to be open to making the switch to Manchester.
The Slovakian was absent from the Magpies’ squad for their cup game on Wednesday meaning a move might not be too far off.
