Keane responds to Fergie

2004-Roy-Keane-Captain-of-Manchester-United-and-Sir-Alex-Fergurson-Head-Coach-speak-at-a-Press-Conferance-before-2479097Sir Alex Ferguson’s biography won’t be released for another two days but less than 12 hours since the book was unveiled at a packed press conference in London, the first murmurs of discontent – and that’s putting it mildly – have begun to emerge.

Earlier tonight, Roy Keane told ITV that Sir Alex Ferguson ignores the meaning of the word “loyal” and that he won’t lose any sleep over the chapter Fergie dedicated to Keane’s departure from Manchester United

“I remember having conversations with Ferguson about loyalty. In my opinion he doesn’t know the meaning of the word.

“To constantly criticise other players that brought him success… I won’t be losing any sleep over it,” Keane told ITV.

The Irishman came under intense criticism from Sir Alex Ferguson earlier today, as the former United manager revealed why he decided to get rid of Keane, following the then United captain explosive interview with MUTV in 2005.

“Roy overstepped his mark, absolutely overstepped his mark,” said Ferguson at the launch of his autobiography today

“That’s the sort of personality he has. For some reason he decided to criticise his team-mates. He did it in a MUTV show but we couldn’t release that video.

“A few days later a few of the younger players were booed as a result of what he’d said. So we decided we had to do something.

“The meeting we had in that room was horrendous. But I just couldn’t lose the control of that situation.

“If I had let it pass, the players would have looked at me differently, much differently.

“I think it’s clear that I had to show I was strong enough to deal with issues like that.

“We paid up his contract and gave him a testimonial with a 75,000 crowd. We did everything we could to honour the fact he was a great player for us.”

“The hardest part of Roy’s body is his tongue. He has the most savage tongue you can imagine. He can debilitate the most confident person in the world in seconds with that tongue.

“What I noticed about him that day when I was arguing with him was that his eyes started to narrow, almost to wee black beads. It was frightening to watch. And I’m from Glasgow.”
