Juventus Sporting Director Fabio Paratici has hinted at the club’s desire to re-sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United.
Speaking to Sky Sports (as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano) he said:
“Paul Pogba as our target? At this moment he’s a Man Utd player, it’s difficult to think about transfers.
“We love Pogba, he’s a fantastic player but it’s too early to talk about our targets for the future”
Pogba left United in 2012 to Juventus. He made 178 appearances for the Turin-based club, racking up 40 goals and 34 assists.
He returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then world-record transfer fee of €105 million (£89.3 million). He’s been a regular for United since then.
During his first year at the club following the return, he won the EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho.
From 175 outings for United’s senior side, Pogba has amassed 33 goals and 35 assists across all competitions.
Pogba recently came under the spotlight after his comments on playing for ‘Real Madrid one day‘ went viral.
Spanish media outlets have repeatedly suggested that Zinedine Zidane is eager to work with Pogba.
United extended Pogba’s contract last month – tying him to the club until June 2022.
Our take on Pogba
There are no lack of suitors for Pogba, but the ball is currently in United’s court.
Should United fail in their attempt to tie Pogba to a longer deal, the Red Devils may consider trying to grab a return on their £89m investment.
However, the endless uncertainty over Pogba’s future is a distraction that the club can well do without right now.
The French midfielder has largely failed to produce his best form and shipping him out of the club needs to happen sooner rather than later.
