Juan Mata Reflects on Landmark Game

Manchester United winger Juan Mata has given the biggest hint that he wants to stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of his current contract. Mata was very close to leaving the club in the summer of 2019 before he made a U-turn and signed a contract.

After signing from Chelsea for £37 million, which was a record back then, Mata has faced a lot of up and downs at Old Trafford. Yet, he has started making a positive influence of late and the 32-year-old also provides a wealth of experience, as he has more than 200 games under his belt at United.

Speaking on his Twitter account, the Spanish midfielder said:

“It feels like it has gone very quickly, it feels like time flies. I didn’t know it was going to be my 250th game, but I feel proud.

“I don’t want to stop here, I want to keep going and going, and keep adding games in a United shirt.”

It remains to be seen if Mata will be offered anything above a one-year contract as the season progresses. Still, few would have expected Mata to become a key player at United despite having come to England in Chelsea’s books. The number of trophies picked up by the 32-year-old since making the move to United may not be great, but the time with United appears to have given the former Valencia player happiness.
