Juan Mata has praised Bruno Fernandes after his recent impressive performances for Manchester United.
The Red Devils have had an underwhelming season under manager Erik ten Hag and look sure to miss out on Champions League qualification for next season.
Fernandes has been one of the few players who has impressed with his performances this term.
The Portuguese midfielder has started 32 Premier League matches, bagging ten goals and seven assists.
The 29-year-old netted twice and assisted another in the Red Devils’ 4-2 win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Mata waxed lyrical about Fernandes while talking to ESPN recently.
He said: “I can tell you that there is a great leader in there right now, which is the captain, Bruno. I should tell all young players to look up to him.
“I cannot tell you how important he is for the club and not only because of what he’s done in the last games, scoring two goals and winning the game (against Sheffield United), but his consistency within the years that he’s been playing for the club is just incredible.”
Bruno Fernandes has proved to be an excellent acquisition for United. He came to Old Trafford in January 2020 for a fee worth up to €80 million from Sporting Lisbon.
Since he arrived in English football, the Portugal international has tallied 79 goals and 64 assists in 229 appearances for the club.
Although his suitability for the captaincy role has been questioned, Fernandes is undoubtedly a key player for the Red Devils.
