Juan Mata comments on his Manchester United future

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has opened up on his future at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils finished their Premier League campaign in style after recording yet another away win.

First-half goals from Anthony Elanga and Juan Mata sealed United’s 2-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Donny van de Beek won the penalty just before half-time, which Mata cooly dispatched to secure the points for United.

The 33-year old midfielder’s contract is set to expire next month and his future at Old Trafford is yet to be decided.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game (Via Manchester Evening News), Mata said: “I don’t know, I don’t really know.

“In three days we have an important game and that’s where my mind is, but I still think I can play good football and give a lot to the team and enjoy for many years playing football like today, that’s my mentality.

“It is not the moment to speak about it. I know what I want and I’m happy with how I feel physically and mentally.

“I’m still hungry to play football for some years. The club knows that so let’s see.”

Mata joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2014 and has played 271 times for the club since then.

The Spanish international has operated in a bit-part role this season. He has featured just 17 times, scoring three goals and assisting twice.

With Red Devils looking to bolster their squad with more attacking players in the summer, it will be harder for him to find ample game-time at Old Trafford.

United would be better off keeping him if he is willing to play a similar role next season.

His wealth of experience could come in very handy for the youngsters around him, but he may be keen to focus on securing more playing time for himself.
