Zirkzee providing older brother role for Obi, Dorgu key to helping him settle in Manchester United dressing room

Joshua Zirkzee is providing something of an older brother role for fellow Manchester United striker Chido Obi, while Patrick Dorgu has been key to helping the 17-year-old settle in the first-team dressing room, according to the Daily Mail.

The teenage sensation made his official debut for the Red Devils in their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, coming on for the final few minutes of the game.

Obi has impressed at youth level for Man United since joining from Arsenal last summer, and there have been constant calls to give him chances with the first-team having impressed head coach Ruben Amorim in training.

While he did not record any touch against Spurs, the future remains very bright for the Denmark youth international and he is expected to be given more minutes going forward.

With 37 goals in 26 games to his name in the Under-18 Premier League, Obi has proven he is head and shoulders above his peers and is ready to start playing with the big boys.

He has also been integrated into the first-team for meals and been included in their gym sessions to further ease his integration, and it did not surprise many when he became the club’s third youngest Premier League appearance-maker – behind Angel Gomes (16y, 8m, 20d) and Shola Shoretire (17y, 19d) – against Spurs.

With Amad Diallo currently injured, five league goals between Rasmus Hojlund and Zirkzee this term and Alejandro Garnacho without a goal since last November, giving Obi regular chances right now would not hurt the Man United boss.

Playing him could be a gamble that works out and helps the Red Devils to turn a corner following a run of three wins in their last 12 Premier League games, and Amorim has nothing to lose if he decides to trust the kid given the current situation of his team.
