Jose Mourinho Confirms Double Injury Boost

Jose Mourinho has spoken at his pre-match press conference this afternoon to give a team news and injury update to MUTV.

We travel to Swansea City tomorrow lunchtime for the opening game of this weekend’s Premier League game after completing last weekend’s action with an emphatic 4-0 thrashing of West Ham.

The boss was able to provide a positive update on both Luke Shaw and Ashley Young who have both been long-term absentees.

Shaw was sidelined at the end of April in a game versus this weekend’s opponents, whilst Young was sidelined the following week in our UEFA Europa League semi-final clash with Celta Vigo on 4 May.

The pair of England internationals travelled with the team on our tour of America in the summer to continue their rehabilitation before they both returned to full training last week.

Jose Mourinho has now confirmed that both will play for the under-23s on Monday night.  He told MUTV:

“Everybody is fine. The next week, on Monday, in the Under-23s game, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are playing their first minutes of competition this season.

“It is like a pre-season match for them. But it is good news because, when they can play with the Under-23s, it is because the last week they trained with us all week so they are both coming [back].”

Our under-23s face Swansea City on Monday night.

Three points for our first team tomorrow will see them remain top of the Premier League at full-time with a maximum of six points.

The hosts sold Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton midweek which will be a big blow in their attack; one that had failed to fire in a single shot on target in their 0-0 draw at Southampton last Saturday.
