Jose gives update on Alexis Sanchez’s fitness

Manchester United drew 1-1 against AC Milan as part of our pre-season tour of the United States, winning 9-8 on penalties.

Alexis Sanchez arrived on tour fresh from a long summer’s break having not been involved in the 2018 World Cup earlier this month due to Chile failing to qualify.

The 29-year-old has received a lot of praise from fans for his performances so far on the other side of the pond.  We have played three matches to date with Liverpool and Real Madrid still to come.

Speaking after the game, Jose Mourinho was full of praise for our hardworking forward.  The boss pointed out that Sanchez began to tire around the hour mark but wanted to stay on for the full 90 minutes.

Jose said:

“Yes, he arrived hungry, he arrived with appetite for football. He’s been working really well since day one. Since the first session at the Aon Training Complex, he’s worked with enthusiasm. Physically he’s working really, really hard and he was very good [in the game]. Of course after 60, 65 minutes, you could see his energy going down but he was saying to be on the pitch for 90 minutes was something he wanted to try, which he did.”

We start the 2018-19 Premier League season at home to Leicester City on Friday 9 August.  Jose Mourinho has already hinted that several players who were involved in the latter stages of the World Cup could miss the opener.  Antonio Valencia and Nemanja Matic have also picked up injuries over in North America.
