Jose gives Man Utd deadline day transfer update

Manchester United and other English football clubs have until 5pm today to seal any further transfers.

It has so far been a disappointing summer for us with only central midfielder Fred, full-back Diogo Dalot and backup goalkeeper Lee Grant arriving at Old Trafford.

We have been strongly linked with a number of centre-backs this summer, in particularly over the final week of the transfer window.

However, it looks as though we are not going to land Harry Maguire from Leicester City, Yerry Mina appears to be on his way to Everton, and we’re having no breakthroughs with neither Toby Alderweireld or Jerome Boateng.

We kick off the 2018-19 Premier League season at home to Leicester City on Friday night, and Jose Mourinho has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning.

The key topic on people’s minds was whether we are going to make a signing or two today.  The boss replied:

“The information I have is no. I’m not confident. The market closes today so there’s time at least for me to stop thinking about it. I will have to focus on the players I have in relation to the first three matches, because after Spurs there is an international break and I have a couple of weeks to recover people and prepare them better. I have to focus on the players that are available.”

Jose’s update does not sound positive as we were really keen to bring in a new centre-back before the start of the season.

Victor Lindelof failed to settle in following his big move last summer, whilst the boss has never seemed keen on Phil Jones nor Chris Smalling as regular’s in the first team.
