Jose gives Lukaku injury update

Manchester United face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday looking for a win that would move us within six points of the current Premier League leaders.

We head into the derby on good form having taken 10 points from our last four league fixtures and a dramatic come-from-behind win at Juventus on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Jose Mourinho has today confirmed that we have no new injuries heading into Sunday’s game following our trip to Italy during the week.

The boss is also hopeful that Romelu Lukaku could feature on Sunday. The striker has missed our last two games with an injury picked up a week ago prior to our 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

Jose told MUTV this morning:

“No new injuries. So from Juventus, we don’t bring important injuries. We have ‘touches’ but I don’t think any player that was available for Juventus will be out.

”We have a chance – it is Friday morning now – that Lukaku could be back.”

Alexis Sanchez has started the last two games as the central striker in a front three. The Chilean was flanked by an in-form Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard midweek. Martial and Marcus Rashford are other options available to Jose to play as the striker this weekend.

Kevin De Bruyne is expected to be Manchester City’s only absentee for this weekend’s crucial game. Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 6-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
