Manchester United will be without Paul Pogba for the derby at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon.
It was confirmed nearly an hour ago when the team was released that the French international wouldn’t be participating in today’s matchday squad, following rumours this morning that he was injured.
Jose Mourinho has confirmed this news. Speaking to Sky Sports in a pre-game interview moments ago, the boss announced that Pogba was injured during our 2-1 win at Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday. He said:
“He was injured in the game in Turin.”
Paul Pogba missed the first Manchester derby of last season due to suspension before scoring a brace as we came from two down to win 3-2 at the Etihad in April, delaying City’s title celebrations.
Marouane Fellaini comes into the starting XI today to partner Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera in our central midfield three.
Romelu Lukaku had also been a doubt coming into the game but has been named among the substitutes. The Belgian striker is joined by Alexis Sanchez who drops to the bench. Marcus Rashford starts up front; flanked by the in-form Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard.
Manchester City dropped to second following Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Fulham earlier today.
