Jose gives injury update on 5 players

Manchester United were 1-0 winners at Benfica to make it three wins from three in the 2017-18 Champions League on Wednesday night.

Speaking after the game, Jose Mourinho was able to give an injury update prior to Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon last night but was substituted late on with an apparent knock.

Jose was unable to give an update on the 19-year-old star with regards to our next game.

However, the boss was able to confirm that Phil Jones is likely to return on Saturday.  The England international was named among the substitutes versus Benfica but wasn’t 100% fit.

Speaking post-game to MUTV, Mourinho was also able to provide further updates:

“For Eric Bailly, I think it will be difficult.

“With Rashford, I thought it was cramp because he was running so much – I thought it was muscular fatigue. But no, he told me he felt something in his knee. It didn’t look to me like a big thing but we don’t know.

“Hopefully some of them [can return at Huddersfield] but I don’t know. I don’t know about Paul, I don’t know about Fellaini.”

With Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini sidelined, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera started in front of the back four again in our win at Benfica.  The duo can be expected to start on Saturday too with only Scott McTominay the only other option should Pogba and Fellaini not be available once again.

Chris Smalling has been excellent in the games he has played this season and could start again this weekend should both Phil Jone and Eric Bailly not be fit.
