Jose eager to land £50m midfielder for Man Utd

Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer of transfer activity with several players expected to both join and leave the club before the start of next season.

Since the winter transfer window closed at the end of January we have been linked to a whole host of players.

One name that has come up on a number of occasions is Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, Fred.

The 25-year-old is believed to be keen on moving to the Premier League and should we make a move for the Brazilian, we can expect strong competition from Manchester City.  However, we did beat Pep Guardiola’s side to the capture of Alexis Sanchez in January.

Fred is a central midfielder who is both good at defending and attacking – notably impressing in Shakhtar Donetsk’s Champions League group stage victory over Manchester City earlier this season – a game which he impressed the City boss.

However, the Daily Star are today claiming that we are in pole position and that Fred is expected to join Manchester United over the coming months.  The player is valued at £50 million which isn’t bad at all in today’s market.

It’s no secret that we are going to be signing a central midfielder or two this summer either.  Jose Mourinho has switched to a 4-3-3 formation since signing Sanchez in January and with Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini expected to let his contract run down, we’d only be left with four players in this position.

The report goes on to say that Fred is one of Mourinho’s top summer targets and that the player’s representatives have privately confirmed we’ve shown the strongest interest.
