Jose confirms midfielder will not face Crystal Palace on Saturday

Manchester United return to Premier League action to face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday.

We were convincing 4-1 winners at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday and are back in action only three days later after playing in Russia.

Our midfield was stretched last night with Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick all staying back in England due to injuries.

Pogba has been ruled out of this weekend’s game indefinitely whilst Jose Mourinho has now confirmed that Michael Carrick will not feature against Crystal Palace either.

Speaking in his post-match interview after our win over CSKA Moscow, asked about the upcoming game this weekend, Mourinho told BT Sport:

“Carrick has no chance.”

The 36-year-old has not made a single appearance in the Premier League so far this season and his only appearance in all competitions was in our 4-1 trashing of Burton Albion in the EFL Cup last week.

However, Carrick could have featured this weekend due to Paul Pogba’s injury and the likelihood that Marouane Fellaini will not recover in time to face Crystal Palace.

Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera started the Champions League game last night with 20-year-old Scott McTominay on the bench.  The youngster could be named among the substitutes again this weekend with Carrick’s injury.
