Jonny Evans was brilliant defensively for Man Utd in superb comeback win vs Aston Villa

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans was brilliant defensively on Tuesday night as the club secured a 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Red Devils had a nervy start against the Villans at Old Trafford and Evans was crucial to keeping the score at 0-0 with a couple of key interceptions in the box.

Diogo Dalot gifted the ball to the visitors with a poor pass, but the Portuguese’s blushes were spared with Evans managing to retain possession immediately.

Despite this, United found themselves 2-0 down at the break. They managed to seal a terrific comeback win with three goals after the interval. Evans played a huge part.

The 35-year-old made a vital goalline clearance with his left foot when the scores were level. John McGinn looked certain to score but Evans made an outstanding block.

Alejandro Garnacho was undoubtedly the man of the match with his brace last night. Rasmus Hojlund finally answered his critics with his maiden Premier League goal.

However, Evans was equally influential towards the result and kept the Villans attack at bay in key situations with three blocks including one stunning clearance off the line.

Aside from his defensive involvements, Evans completed 92 per cent of his passes on the night and won 100 per cent of his aerial duels (3/3).

United moved into the top six of the Premier League after a hard-fought and deserved win over the Villans and they are now within five points off the fourth position.

West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are yet to play their games, but yesterday’s victory should pile the pressure on the trio ahead of their respective away trips.

The Red Devils ended their goalless run of four matches with a sublime second half against Villa and the onus is on repeating the performance at Nottingham Forest this weekend.
