Jonny Evans signs new one-year deal with Man United

Jonny Evans has extended his stay at Manchester United until June 2025.

United announced his arrival last summer on a one-year contract that expired last month.

The Premier League giants have confirmed a new deal for Evans who had a reasonable 2023/24 campaign.

Evans told ManUtd.com: “I am delighted to have extended my contract at Manchester United for another season.

“To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege.

“Returning to the club last season was an honour; representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic team-mates under an excellent manager.

“Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies in the season ahead.”

Evans’ contract extension is the right call by Man United

When the Northern Ireland international joined the Red Devils last summer, sceptics were quick to point out his supposed lack of pace and mobility.

They predicted that he would be a liability for the team.

However, the United academy graduate silenced his critics by consistently demonstrating his reliability and proving to be a valuable asset.

His exceptional game awareness allowed him to compensate for his shortcomings.

He featured 30 times across all competitions, averaging 3.2 clearances and one tackle per outing. His impressive number of appearances exceeded all expectations.

He had a passing accuracy of 88 percent, which proves his ability with the ball at his feet.

Evans stepped up every time Erik ten Hag turned to him due to injury concerns in the squad.

Having him as an option from the bench is a shrewd move by United.
