Jonny Evans deserves new contract after another solid Premier League display

Manchester United centre-back Jonny Evans delivered another solid defensive performance during the 2-0 Premier League win over Everton on Saturday.

The 36-year-old has been a regular starter for United in recent games amid the club’s injury crisis and he has rose to the occasion with consistent displays.

Against the Toffees, Evans was brilliant with his ball control amid the high pressing. He completed an impressive 42 passes with an accuracy of 88 per cent.

The Northern Irishman also had 64 touches, making four clearances and blocking four shots on goal.

It was a quality all-round showing from the veteran and in our opinion, the club should look at the prospect of extending his contract for another season.

Evans deserves new contract at Man Utd

The Red Devils signed Evans on a free transfer last summer after the hierarchy were unable to recruit a marquee centre-back during the transfer window.

Evans was anticipated to play a fringe role with the competition from Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire as well as Victor Lindelof.

However, the club’s injury woes have seen Evans play more than expected. He has stood up to the challenge with plenty of impressive performances.

Against Manchester City recently, he was one of United’s best players, winning 100 per cent of his ground duels alongside four clearances and two tackles.

United conceded the second goal shortly after he was substituted in the 69th minute.

Evans was taken off early in the Manchester derby due to an injury concern, but he managed to recover and deliver a solid defensive display against Everton.

The experienced ace currently earns £65,000-a-week. In our view, United should consider keeping him next season as he has proved his worth in the squad.
