Sir Jim Ratcliffe pictured looking gloomy as Manchester United suffer last-gasp 4-3 loss to Chelsea

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 4-3 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night despite leading 3-2 in the 99th minute.

A late brace from Cole Palmer condemned the Red Devils to their 12th Premier League loss this season.

The Red Devils were 2-0 down after 19 minutes but drew themselves level before half-time and were 3-2 up by the 67th minute.

They were heading for their 16th league victory until Chelsea struck twice late in the game, equalising in the tenth minute of added time before grabbing the winner a minute later.

Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Stamford Bridge to watch the game, and his reaction as the Red Devils suffered a late capitulation was captured on camera.

Man United manager Erik ten Hag wants to remain in charge of the club beyond this summer, but the result will not have helped his chances of retaining the job.

They are 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa with eight games remaining and are unlikely to break into the last Champions League spot.

Man United host league leaders Liverpool on Sunday. They will hope for a repeat of their 4-3 FA Cup victory last month. However, given the current form of both teams, this will be difficult.

The Red Devils may have to settle for a place in the Europa League next term as they do not have what it takes to break into the Champions League places.

The performance against Chelsea would have served as a timely reminder for Ratcliffe ahead of his squad rebuilding plans this summer.
