Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard does not plan to leave the club during the upcoming transfer window, The Athletic’s David Ornstein claims.
The England international has struggled for regular game time this term. He has been restricted to just 87 minutes in the Premier League.
This recently led to suggestions that he could leave the club in January, but that appears unlikely to happen, as per Ornstein.
Lingard will enter the final six months of his contract in January, but he is ready to stay and fight for his spot under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
The attacker also has no plans of discussing a pre-contract with a foreign club.
Newcastle United have been heavily linked with him in recent weeks, but the club are not planning a winter approach.
Our view:
Lingard had a superb loan spell with West Ham United earlier this year, bagging nine goals and five assists from 16 games.
He was fancied to rejoin them over the summer, but then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked his exit. Lingard was also content to stay put.
The attacker has since managed only eight appearances for the Red Devils in the league, all off the bench. He has still scored two goals.
While United may want to cash in, the 29-year-old appears prepared to stay. It doesn’t come as a surprise as he can decide his own destiny.
The Hammers have been linked with him recently, but United are unlikely to negotiate with them as they are genuine top-four rivals.
Ideally, Lingard may want to rejoin them. If his situation at United does not improve, he could reunite with David Moyes’ side next summer.
