Manchester United are scheduled to host Liverpool in Sunday’s much-anticipated Premier League clash at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have struggled during the first eight games of the 2019/2020 campaign and they have registered just nine points and sit in the 12th spot on the table.
Amidst this, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to deal with numerous absentees through injury including David de Gea and Paul Pogba, and that has certainly made things tougher ahead of the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Still, the Red Devils have generally turned up for the contest against their fierce league rivals and the club’s faithful should expect a performance worthy of delivering a positive result on Sunday.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Lineup:
With David de Gea ruled out with a thigh injury, it is quite clear that Sergio Romero will start in goal. The Argentine has made just seven Premier League starts for the club but he has been impressive with six clean sheets.
In the defence, Victor Lindelof should partner Harry Maguire in the central defence after missing the previous game against Newcastle United with a knock. In this case, Axel Tuanzebe could shift to the right side of the backline with Aaron Wan-Bissaka doubtful to start. Ashley Young is expected to feature at left-back.
At the heart of the midfield, Scott McTominay has been the undisputed starter this campaign and the Scotland international will undoubtedly make the starting XI. He is likely to be partnered by Nemanja Matic with Paul Pogba still injured while Fred has yet to make his mark on the Premier League stage.
In the attack, the combination should be the same from the Magpies clash. Daniel James and Andreas Pereira should operate on the wings with Juan Mata in the number 10 role while Marcus Rashford should lead the line once more.
Anthony Martial may be restricted to a role off the bench after just returning to training following a lengthy thigh concern. Elsewhere, there is the temptation of starting Mason Greenwood, who has just renewed his contract, but Solskjaer has been reluctant to hand the promising teenager with a league start this season.
