Manchester United are scheduled to entertain Everton in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford. The Red Devils go into the game on the back of successive wins in the league and they have the chance to close the five-point gap to Chelsea, who are currently holding the final Champions League place in the fourth position.
The Red Devils will undoubtedly be the favourites to tackle the Toffees, who have conceded 28 times this season and are only two points adrift of the relegation zone. Still, they can’t afford any complacency, particularly with the Merseyside outfit experiencing the new ‘manager bounce’ following a surprise 3-1 victory over Frank Lampard’s side last weekend under caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Lineup:
David de Gea has been ever-present for the Red Devils in goal for the Premier League campaign and he is expected to keep his place. In the defence, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should go with the same combination from the Manchester derby win last weekend.
Victor Lindelof should return to the lineup to partner Harry Maguire in the central defence after he was rested for the midweek Europa League clash. Likewise, Ashley Young and Brandon Williams should drop to the bench with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw replacing them in the full-back spots.
At the heart of the midfield, Scott McTominay and Fred have performed splendidly as a pair in recent league games and the latter had one of his best games in the United shirt in the Manchester derby where he controlled the proceedings in the centre of the park alongside his teammate.
In the attack, there is the temptation to play Mason Greenwood after his sublime man of the match display in midweek where he bagged two goals and an assists against AZ Alkmaar. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unlikely to swap him with any of his wide players after their derby exploits and the same should be the case for the centre-forward position.
Hence, Greenwood may have to settle for a bench role. Marcus Rashford and Daniel James will definitely feature in the left and right wing positions respectively. Andreas Pereira could get the nod for the number 10 spot with Jesse Lingard doubtful with a knock. Martial is expected to lead the line despite his off-day against Alkmaar in midweek.
